Summary:

This book is designed to provide teachers with a comprehensive and developmentally appropriate literacy curriculum for kindergartners. It addresses the three principal areas of development that serve as the foundation for learning to read and write: (1)development of receptive and expressive language; (2)awareness and understanding of the structure and functions of print; and (3)development of phonological awareness and ability. Each lesson and activity provides practical teaching adaptations for a range of learners so that all students can participate together. The activities include field-tested, culturally sensitive instructional games, storytelling, and classroom work and play ideas.
