Summary:

This booklet provides parents and early childhood educators with information on developmental milestones for children ages birth through five. It begins by discussing characteristics that children need in order to be ready for school and how families and educators can foster these characteristics in young children. The booklet then outlines the personal and social skills, language and understanding skills, and small and large muscle skills, children should attain from birth through 3 months, 3 to 6 months, 6 to 9 months, 9 to 12 months, 12 to 18 months, 18 to 24 months, 24 to 36 months, 36 to 48 months, and 48 to 60 months. For each age group, learning activities are suggested. The booklet also provides a list of additional materials that provide information about child development.
