These booklets are for parents of Florida's infants and toddlers who have disabilities or who are developing slowly. They provide information on the following topics: (1)eligibility for early intervention services; (2) steps in planning early intervention services for your family; (3)development of a family support plan, guiding principles of the family support plan, contents of the family support plan, and steps in planning and carrying out your family support plan; (4) transition; (5) parents' records; (6) laws about early intervention services, the right to accept or decline services, the right to privacy, and the right to information; and (7) resolving complaints, mediation, and due process hearings. A glossary of special education terms is provided, along with a list of federal and state disability resources. Forms to help parents plan and review family support plan meetings are also included.

Parents' educational records/registros educativos de los padres [English and Spanish]

These booklets of forms are for parents of Florida children who have disabilities. They are designed to help parents keep track of important information about their child and his or her education. Most of the forms in the booklet can be used for the regular Individualized Education Program (IEP) or Transition IEP meetings and activities. The forms cover one year of meetings and activities and relate to: (1) special education referral; (2) evaluation; (3) before eligibility staffing; (4) after eligibility staffing; (5) observations before IEP meetings; (6) observations before Transition IEP meetings; (7) IEP and Transition IEP meetings; (8) special programs; (9) IEP review; (10) re-evaluation; (11) independent evaluation; (12) other meetings; (13) school records; and (14) due process hearings.

Chapter 1, "Educating Florida's Exceptional Students", discusses special education laws and steps in the special education process, including referral, evaluation, eligibility determination, development of the Individual Educational Plan (IEP), parental consent, review of the IEP, and re-evaluation of the student. Chapter 2, "The Individual Educational Plan", describes the different components of the IEP, how the IEP is written, parental involvement, and transition services. The following chapter, "Planning for Transition to Post-School Life", addresses transition services and student and parent participation in transition planning. Chapter 4, "Rights and Responsibilities", discusses due process, student rights, and how parents can work with schools to solve problems. The last chapter, "Resources and References", contains a parents' dictionary of special education terms, a list of reading materials for parents, excerpts from relevant laws, a list of resource organizations, and sample letters to schools requesting services.
