Summary:

This packet of material includes information for implementing the Family-guided Approaches to Collaborative Early-intervention Training and Services (FACETS) program. FACETS is based upon a family-guided, activity-based approach to early intervention for infants, toddlers, and young children with disabilities. Module 1 begins through evaluating hypothetical early intervention practices, and then contrasts what family-guided activity based intervention is and is not. Module 2 discusses the importance of family-guided routines for early intervention, components of a routine, and family variables that impact individual routines. Worksheets are provided for testing understanding of routines, getting to know the child, for conversation starters, for identifying family activities and routines, for identifying child care/classroom routines, and observing careprovider-child routines. Suggested steps for getting started in routine-based intervention are included. Module 3 addresses facilitating family involvement in daily routines and includes check sheets for information gathering for home visits, for implementing information about adult learners in family-guided activity-based intervention, and for facilitating a problem-solving approach for families. Module 4 presents intervention principles for family-guided routines and includes worksheets for becoming a family-guided activity-based interventionist, understanding considerations for planning routine-based intervention, and developing an activity/routine-by-outcome matrix. The last module focuses on monitoring progress on family-guided routines and includes information on effective strategies for increasing response opportunities.
